Apart from skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women. And so, we fight back! Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, hosted by the American Cancer Society, is one way to make a big difference. This annual event unites communities, companies, and individuals with a collective goal of ending breast cancer. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022, the 3-to-5-mile fundraiser will stride through 150 communities across the U.S. this fall.

Making Strides – Silicon Valley took place last Saturday, October 22, at California’s Great America in Santa Clara, CA. More than 6,000 walkers came together. “We’ve been involved for 10 years in the campaign, says Epicurean Group’s Creative & Design Manager, Carol Anne Nacu, “supplying water and fruit for participants. This year we took it a step further and joined as sponsors. Being a part of the effort is important. The walk funds research and supports people living with the disease. My mother had cancer. I walked this year to build awareness and help individuals while fighting for a cure. It’s exciting – we were able to reach our fundraising goal and ranked #12 out of 182 teams!”

When signing up for Making Strides, you can choose to lead a team, join a team, or walk solo.  Th event was filled with an empowered sea of pink; women wearing survivor sashes, and people walking in memory of, or tribute to, a loved one too sick to join. There were music, booths to browse and games to play – the mood was festive and strong. They walked with old friends and met new ones along the way.

Epicurean Group is proud of the team who participated last October 22nd. By promoting the event to friends, family and on social media, volunteers raised awareness and funds for a disease that will affect over 275,000 people in 2022.

Thanks to decades of work by dedicated volunteers, a breast cancer diagnosis does not come without hope, and the breast cancer journey is not one that is traveled alone. Making Strides is more than a walk, it’s a movement.
